Food for thought

Hello everyone. This blog is for discussions about health issues for men and women at the  young age of 40 or more. This past year we have witnessed the deaths of many men (particularly african-american) who barely reached their mid forties. Some younger. Obesity and heart disease are running rampant in our society. The cause being horrible nutrition habits and lack of exercise. Many of us have not been active since high school or college, thats approximately half our life or more. I'm anxious to hear your thoughts...Live In Love

  1. As a woman whose only inherited health issue is rheumatoid arthritis, I've had to be mindful that exercise is important. My grandfather, who also had the illness, exercised and practiced yoga daily. It's only recently that I heard that medical professionals actually think exercise is good, not bad, for your joints if you have arthritis. Thankfully I've begun to understand that exercise and maintaining flexibility is the key to keeping mobile. Doing these as part of my regularly routing also helps greatly with the weight issue.

  2. Alana, unfortunately this message has not hit home hard enough. Many of us believe as long as we can function daily that we are OK. There is nothing like good health. We must stop ignoring our bodies need for exercise and proper nutrition. The information is available but I will do my part by helping those with questions on starting and maintaining. So that being said any questions or comments?

  4. I myself being over 40 have realized the seriousness of a healthy heart. I've been regularly working out for quite some time and when I don't I feel guilty. We as African-Americans grew up on fried foods, and other unhealthy eating habits that can and do catch up with you when you're not physically active. Water, water, and more water...I can't say enough of the importance of water and working on your portion controls is the biggest key in maintaining a healthy weight, but again of course with being active at least 4x a week. Working out HAS become a habit and part of of my DAILY routine.
